Assistant Editor

Miriam Khanukaev is an Assistant Editor at Random House. She has worked with authors such as Jenny Odell, Ed Yong, Hafizah Augustus Geter, Prentis Hemphill and on forthcoming projects by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Samhita Mukhopadhyay, Sarah Chihaya, Camille Acker, among others. Miriam has also edited new editions of books by Nella Larsen and Jessie Redmon Fauset and steered the reissue of backlist classics. Miriam is interested in a wide range of narrative nonfiction and literary fiction, but is particularly drawn to literary and upmarket fiction that explores identity, community, and gender in exciting new ways; multigenerational family stories; love stories that subvert our notion of what love looks like; and novels with messy characters that make us interrogate what it means to be human. In nonfiction, they love narrative nonfiction and human-centered journalistic deep dives; memoir that dives deep into a particular subculture; and nature, climate, and science writing that inspires wonder and urgency. Miriam is seeking out stories that amplify underrepresented voices and is always intrigued by topics like cultural history, food, nightlife, the built environment, and the culture and politics of the contemporary Middle East and post-Soviet states. Prior to joining Random House, Miriam began her career in the Foreign Rights Department at Trident Media Group and has worked at the New York Public Library.
